The Good Food Guide has been rating the best restaurants in the UK since 1951, and its 60th anniversary edition for 2011 was published in September 2010. As well as choosing the 60 best eating places in Great Britain and Northern Ireland, it rates over 1300 restaurants, pubs, and cafes.
Good Food Guide Restaurant Reviews
Like any good meal, the Good Food Guide starts with fresh ingredients every year. The publishers do not simply update the existing book, but start from scratch compiling current reviews by their readers and inspectors. No restaurant gets into the Good Food Guide on its past reputation. In addition, all meals are paid for and all visits are carried out anonymously.
Restaurant Discount Vouchers
The Good Food Guide 2011 also includes £50-worth of discount vouchers which are valid till 8th September 2011. There are ten £5 vouchers, each of which can be used against the cost of a meal for two people at participating restaurants, provided you mention the voucher at the time of booking the table. There are numerous restaurants participating in the scheme, all indicated by a symbol in the book.
The Best Restaurant in Britain
Yet again, Heston Blumenthal's the Fat Duck in Bray, Buckinghamshire, is voted the Best Restaurant in Britain and Northern Ireland. It receives once more the maximum 10/10 score, the only restaurant to do so.
Best London Restaurant
Gordon Ramsey remains the best London chef with his eponymous restaurant on Royal Hospital Road being the only restaurant in the book to be given a score of 9/10.
Raymond Blanc
Third in the Good Food Guide's Top 60 list is celebrity chef Raymond Blanc's Manoir aux Quat' Saisons in Great Milton, Oxfordshire, one notch behind Gordon Ramsey with a score of 8/10.
Best Restaurants in Scotland
The top-rated restaurant in Scotland, also with a score of 8/10, is Restaurant Martin Wishart in Edinburgh.

A new entry for Scotland is the Blackaddie Country House Hotel in Sanquhar, which I reviewed and raved about recently on Suite101. Also included in the Good Food Guide and reviewed on Suite101 is Michael Caines at the ABode Hotel in Glasgow.
Best Restaurant in Wales
In Wales the restaurant with the highest score is Tyddyn Llan in Llandrillo, awarded 7/10 for its cooking.
