Loch Fyne oysters are now world famous and there's nowhere better to eat them than on the shores of Loch Fyne itself. The Loch Fyne Oyster Bar isn't the only local option, however, as oysters from one of Scotland's most beautiful lochs are often on the menu at the historic Creggans Inn, on the southern shore of the loch.
One of Loch Fyne's Best Restaurants
The restaurant at Creggans Inn has been awarded two rosettes by the AA, Britain's equivalent of the USA's AAA. Three rosettes is the maximum, and British travellers know that anywhere boasting two rosettes is going to be serving top-quality food. That's certainly the case at Creggans Inn, and in addition to the fine food, diners also get to gaze out through five large picture windows across the waters of Loch Fyne to the hills beyond.
Loch Fyne Oysters and Seafood
The menu at the Loch Fyne Dining Room at Creggans Inn changes daily, but always features good local Scottish produce, especially from the loch itself. Starters might include a Loch Fyne smoked salmon salad, hand-dived Loch Fyne scallops, or of course the celebrated Loch Fyne oysters. To cleanse the palate after the appetizers there might be a wonderfully intense cappuccino of cauliflower soup with cumin.
Main courses feature such dishes as baked fillet of halibut with a fennel and citrus crumb on a fine vegetable, fennel and new potato sauce, or for the meat lovers a loin of Scottish Highland venison, or roast sirloin of Scotch beef with sautéed foie gras.
The dessert menu then offers some familiar dishes like sticky toffee pudding or a chocolate espresso torte, and some surprising and tempting seasonal options too, such as a jellied rhubarb terrine or a vacherin of strawberries with a lime and lemon cream. The inexpensive set-price menu also includes canapés to begin with, and coffee or tea with petits fours to round off the meal.
MacPhunn's Bar and Restaurant
Guests who don't want to eat in the Loch Fyne Dining Room every night can also try the bar menu in MacPhunn's Bar, which is also part of Creggans Inn. Here simpler dishes like cullen skink made from Loch Fyne smoked haddock, or roast breast of Grampian chicken can be had, washed down with one of the many fine local ales or perhaps something from the extensive whisky list.

This historic country inn has a range of standard and superior rooms, and one Master Suite. Most rooms are decorated in relaxing light shades, and most have views of the loch.
